A Deeply Moving Visit

The St. Vincent de Paul Home Visit Team recently had the privilege of visiting a neighbor in need—a brave young mother in her early 30s who is facing extraordinary challenges.
After feeling ill with what she believed was a cold, she went to urgent care at her mother’s urging. She was immediately sent to the emergency room and then medevaced to another hospital for emergency surgery to remove a tumor caused by Stage 4 lung cancer. Complications during the procedure required an immediate second surgery. Fortunately, her mother was able to travel from abroad to be by her side when she woke up.
The following day, she learned that her employer was undergoing layoffs and that her job had been eliminated. Despite this loss and the ongoing tremendous physical toll of chemotherapy, she continues to care for her two children with remarkable resilience.
While her loving family has pitched in to support her, their resources are limited. Having exhausted her savings, she was referred to us by the hospital. We were able to assist her directly with rent and connected her with local resources for financial aid with utilities, food, and water. Beyond financial support, the most meaningful part of our visit was offering prayer, listening to her story, and sharing in her heroic spirit.
It was a deeply moving visit that our team will hold dear to our hearts.
